SAN MARCOS, Texas, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Postal Service has told a Texas city it's stuck with a devilish ZIP code because changing it would be like opening the gates of Hell.

The mayor of San Marcos, Susan Narvaiz had made the request based on comments from residents who said 78666 "creeps them out," the Austin American-Statesman said Monday

The triple-six is the symbol of the devil in the Bible, which doesn't sit well with Terry Michaels, pastor at Calvary Baptist Chapel of the Springs.

"I wouldn't mind it being changed, personally," Michaels said. "It represents everything that opposes what I stand for."

Still, Michaels said he often jokes about it, telling people his ZIP code is "7-8-beast."

But the city's request went up in flames.

James Coultress, a postal service spokesman in Washington said so many places have 666 in their ZIP code that if they changed one, "we would probably be changing ZIP codes forever and ever and ever."
