NEW YORK, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- A grandmother and her son were led away in handcuffs after a scuffle over seating arrangements at a New York school Christmas pageant.

Venus Guerrieri, 59, and Charles Balducci, 29, were charged with misdemeanor assault at St. Clare's Church on Staten Island after they allegedly attacked Cathy Reid, who had tried to save a couple of seats by placing her purse on them, the New York Post reported.

When Balducci tried to take one of the seats, Reid "came over and started cursing. She called me a piece of crap," he said. "Yes, my mother grabbed her hair, but Reid is crazy."

Neither family was able to catch the pageant, which went on as scheduled.
