TOKYO, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Honda's humanoid robot Asimo is now taller, faster and smarter than ever, the BBC said Thursday.

Eventually, the Japanese auto maker says, Asimo could find gainful employment in homes and offices.

"The aim is to develop a robot that can help people in their daily lives," said a Honda spokesman.

Asimo has wowed audiences around the world with his ability to walk upstairs, recognize faces and come when beckoned.

In August 2003 he even attended a state dinner in the Czech Republic, travelling with the Japanese prime minister as a goodwill envoy.

He is one of a handful of robots used by tech firms to trumpet their technological advances.
