DAVOS, Switzerland, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Western Europeans are the world's most pessimistic people, with 55 percent telling pollsters their children will live "in a less safe world."

Germans are the gloomiest of the lot, with the 63 percent saying the world is getting more dangerous. Next gloomiest after the Western Europeans were people from the Middle East, and then people from the Asian Pacific. Africans and people from North and South America were the most optimistic.

The global survey of 50,000 people in over 60 countries was conducted by the World Economic Forum, which runs the annual Davos conference in the Swiss Alps for global power-brokers.

The survey also showed the Europeans were more tolerant of their politicians' failings that other regions, although 90 percent of Poles complained that their political leaders were not honest. But only 12 percent of the Dutch felt the same way about their politicians.
