WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Herbal remedies made to boost male sexual performance have been recalled by New Zealand health officials because they contained non-herbal medications.

Boyjoy, Platinum Plus, Manup, and Wei Ge Wang, sold in adult shops and Chinese medicine stores across New Zealand, contain the active ingredients used by Viagra and Cialis to treat erectile dysfunction. Both drugs are prescription-only medicines that can have fatal reactions with some heart medications, the New Zealand Herald reported.

Medsafe, the Ministry of Health's medicine safety authority, began its investigation after overseas tests showed Viagra ingredients were being used in herbal products. It was also contacted by Viagra maker Pfizer.

Medsafe found the products contained undeclared prescription medicines sildenafil and tadalafil - active substances in Viagra and Cialis. It then ordered a recall of the products and warned people to stop using them.
