NEW YORK, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- The U.S.-based hotel chain Holiday Inn declared Aug. 28 Towel Amnesty Day, a day for the world to tell their "borrowed" towel stories.

The overwhelming response of towel stories has resulted in the true accounts being compiled into a coffee-table book entitled "Absorbing Tales of Borrowed Towels," combining the true towel stories with a photographic history of Holiday Inn.

"Over the years my Holiday Inn towels have seen me through thick and thin. I borrowed my towels in Boston, and they followed me cross-country to Los Angeles," said Jason Gondek, a story contributor. "They were the towels in my first apartment, they held roses in the back seat for girlfriends, they've been camping in the Sequoia National Forest and they've comforted cats on the way to the vet."

The books can be purchased via the Web site holiday-inn.com/towels and 60 percent of the purchase price will go to Give Kids the World, a non-profit resort that gives children with life-threatening illnesses a vacation.

The first 1,000 people who buy the book get a limited edition Holiday Inn keepsake hand towel.
