Advertisement State police said Donald Rugg was firing a .22-caliber handgun at the mouse in their home on Chicken Bone Road when Cathy Jo Harris accidentally walked into the path of the round Tuesday night, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. Harris was admitted to Somerset Community Hospital and reported in stable condition with a birdshot wound to the arm. The mouse escaped injury. Police said no charges were filed because although they advise against Rugg's mouse catching method, it's not illegal to shoot a gun in one's own home. Spell-checker a must when forging docs BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The best defense for an Indiana man jailed on forgery charges could be the proof of his own ineptitude. Advertisement Jared Bailey, 20, was jailed in Bloomington on $100,000 bond on felony forgery and theft charges when he decided to phony up some documents to try and fool officials into letting him out on $500 bond, The Smoking Gun reported on its Web site Thursday. So, he allegedly dummied up a Monroe Circuit Court order drastically cutting his own bond and got it to a friend on the outside to finish the job. Unfortunately for Bailey, the friend accidentally faxed the phony document back to the jail, which aroused the suspicion of officials there. Their suspicions were confirmed, however, when they read the papers and found the Monroe County spelled "Monroeroe." For his trouble, Bailey's bond has now been upped to $250,000. Vandalized Bush sign ordered removed ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- An Albuquerque Bush supporter resorted to lights, video cameras, chicken wire and a chain-link fence to protect his 8-foot-tall Bush-Cheney '04 lawn sign. For several weeks, Charles Davis, 90, has seen his sign slashed, stolen, riddled with paintballs and ignited -- twice, the Albuquerque Journal reported. "NO TRESPASSING -- You are being filmed and will be prosecuted!" read a small sign affixed to one of the stilts upon which Davis mounted his ode to Bush for added security. Advertisement But the city of Albuquerque managed to legally accomplish what dogged vandals' repeated attempts couldn't. Davis' sign was ordered removed by the city's zoning enforcement division for exceeding the size limit allowed in residential neighborhoods. "It's turned into quite a little saga here," said Davis's son Bruce, who removed the sign Wednesday. Chicago woman boasts 3-inch eyelash CHICAGO, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- A University of Chicago senior is hoping her 3-inch-long eyelash will help her get into law school. Mel Grubbe, 22, told WMAQ-TV, Chicago, she has had the eyelash on her right eye for six months and can now touch it with her tongue. "It's weird," she said. "They say lashes last, like, three months, but it's been there for half a year." Grubbe says she is hoping to get into the Guinness Book of World Records so she'll stand out among the crowded field of law school applicants. Although Guinness currently doesn't have a longest eyelash record, it does list an Indian man who has 5-inch long ear hairs.
