ATLANTA, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A dog that spent four days trapped under a collapsed car after Hurricane Frances struck Georgia lost his leg, but gained a new chance at life.

After the hurricane, Lisa and Gary Hill could hear Wolf barking under the ruins of their garage in Atlanta. But their insurance company refused to authorize the removal of the two downed trees that landed on garage, car and dog until an adjustor had examined the wreckage.

Several animal shelters told the couple Wolf should be put to sleep. Then they heard about Dr. Michael Good of Marietta, who operates the Homeless Pet Foundation.

Good removed Wolf's shattered leg and is helping the dog get its confidence back following its ordeal.

"He'll know he's loved by the time he leaves here," Good told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Because the Hills are no longer able to care for Wolf, he will be put up for adoption once he recuperates.
