LAFAYETTE, Ind., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- As the driver of the trolley in Lafayette, Ind., took a smoke break, the trolley took off on its own, slamming into a building before stopping.

Nobody was injured in the incident Tuesday, the Lafayette Journal and Courier reported.

Witnesses said Michael Igo had stopped for a smoke break from driving his CityBus trolley, when he noticed the trolley starting to roll down the hill.

He jumped on the side window, trying to reach for the brake, but failed to stop it. Igo jumped off before the trolley hit anything.

The trolley headed north across Main street then crashed into the building. Police said no one was aboard the vehicle at the time.

Igo refused treatment at the scene. Police estimated about $6,000 in damages to the building and about $4,000 to the trolley.
