EDINBURGH, Scotland, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- The Catholic Church is Scotland wants a review of sex education in schools, branding teacher aids now in use "pornographic."

After church officials examined teaching materials, they called for a sweeping review of what primary and secondary school children are being taught in sex-ed classes, the Evening News reported.

Recommended books and videos depict sexual organs and show couples having sex, feature videos of childbirth and discuss topics such as the clitoris.

Church parliamentary officer John Deighan said some of the teacher aids are pornographic and not suited for students in the age group for which they are intended. He also said the materials lack any social or moral context and are unnecessary for the classroom.

"When children ask where babies come from, they want to hear 'from mummy's tummy' or 'from God.' They don't want a complex science lesson with gruesome pictures, some of which could be quite traumatic at that age," Deighan said.
