Before she became pregnant, Hua Mei's keepers showed her videos of pandas mating as preparation for a series of "blind dates" because experts feared she had little such knowledge after living in captivity. Advertisement Hua Mei was born to two Chinese pandas on loan to San Diego zoo, and is the first foreign-born panda to return to China. She and her offspring are now at the Wolong Panda Conservation Center in the southern Chinese city of Sichuan. The births sparked celebrations among her keepers, as pandas rarely breed in captivity, and are endangered in the wild. One of the twins is a boy, but Hua Mei has not let go of the other cub long enough for handlers to determine its gender.
