LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Only in Los Angeles would 50 moms in "Got Breast Milk?" T-shirts stage a protest by simultaneously nursing their infants.

The moms were among protesters outside the city's downtown Metro Transit Authority offices Tuesday decrying bus drivers and train conductors who've stopped them from nursing their infants while taking public transportation, the Los Angeles Times reported.

One of the protesters, Claudia Flores, said she has twice been told to stop nursing while using the transport system -- despite a 1997 state law allowing women to breastfeed in public, the newspaper said.

"I felt bad," she said, adding that she was completely covered while feeding her daughter. "I felt hurt, embarrassed and humiliated. But I knew I had the right. I thought to myself, 'I'm going to report this.'"

An MTA spokesman told the protesters there was no policy against breastfeeding on buses and trains and promised to send a memo to the agency's 500 employees, reminding them of such.
