MIAMI, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Krispy Kreme donuts is offering students in Palm Beach County, Fla., schools a free donut for every A on their report cards, but health is an issue.

The program comes as the public becomes aware of a nationwide childhood obesity epidemic and there are plenty of critics, the Palm Beach Post reported Wednesday.

School board members have had plenty to say on the issue, but the board has taken no official position.

"I am a victim of food as a reward, and I don't think we should continue to do that. Then you end up fat," school board member Debra Robinson said.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently joined with several local groups to promote healthier lifestyles in 50 elementary schools in Palm Beach and Broward Counties over the next three years. The program is investing $1.4 million.

In addition, the Palm Beach school district no longer offers French fries for lunch and has added large salads to its menu.
