Japanese law forbid travelers from bringing processed meats into the country without a written statement from the country of origin that the meat had passed inspection, the Mainichi Daily News reported Sunday. Advertisement However, customs officials in Japan are not allowed to force passengers into opening their luggage. The ministry says it plans to use beagles to sniff out contraband foods. "Sniffer dogs patrolling airports have a very strong preventative effect," a ministry spokesman told Mainichi.
