LONDON, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A British restaurant chain whose trademark logo is a paunchy little chef has caved in to pressure from critics who dislike the unhealthy image.

The Little Chef chain, which operates 375 highway eateries and is known for its egg, bacon and sausage meals announced it will slim down the chef and give him a new coat for a trial period to appease those offended by his pudginess, The Sun reported.

Little Chef sells 15 million servings of bacon and 13 million sausages every year. But since the chain was purchased by Permira from the Forte food empire last year, executives have introduced healthier menus, including food that is lower in salt.

They also added new choices of fruit and muesli, more meat to sausages and swapped fresh mushrooms for canned.

The logo's change is the first in 32 years, and will only survive if customers approve in chain-wide polls, the newspaper said.
