WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell met with his feline namesake Friday, the Cat Fanciers' Association's cat of the year.

"This is the best cat in the country," he said, referring to Colin Powell the cat, a copper-eyed Bombay male.

The feline Powell beat out 22,700 other cats at 290 competitions, to take the title in 2004.

Powell met him in the State Department's Benjamin Franklin Treaty Room.

During the Friday meeting, the secretary named one of Powell's sons, born on July 4, Ralph Bunche, after the U.S. diplomat who became the first African-American to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

Powell was presented with a copy of the association's almanac with the feline Powell's paw print.
