MILWAUKEE, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- A Milwaukee cop was charged with felony misconduct for allegedly inventing a crime story to hide another officer's injury suffered while sledding on duty.

Sgt. Brian Hinkle, 36, faces up to three years and six months in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, if convicted of the felony charge, the Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday.

Officials said Hinkle and five other officers went to a hill on the night of Jan. 27 and began sledding, instead of patrolling.

When one man was injured, an "officer down" call was made on the police radio and a later report by Hinkle said the injured man was hurt while pursuing "an unknown black male" prowler in the area of the sledding hill.
