BOSTON, July 12 (UPI) -- Massachusetts is struggling with a chipmunk infestation, the Boston Herald reported Monday.

Wildlife biologists say the infestation is driven by plentiful acorn and other nut crops in recent years that have produced a population boom among chipmunks.

More and more of the cartoon-cute vermin are surviving through the winter and producing healthier litters during spring and summer mating seasons.

"I'm getting at least six times the number of calls for those little critters," said Bob Quinzani, owner of Animal Problem Solutions in Millis. "I just left a place in Framingham where they had chipmunks all over the house."

Here's how to tell how many are on your property: Take the number of chipmunks you can see at one time and multiply that by three.
