Wienerschnitzel, a restaurant based in Newport Beach, Calif., has added the Chicago Dog to its offerings at more than 350 outlets throughout the West and Southwest, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday. The original is an all-beef wiener made by Chicago's Vienna Beef on a steamed poppyseed bun, dressed with mustard, neon green relish, onion, tomato, a pickle spear, sport peppers and celery salt. Wienerschnitzel's version mimics the original except for the Vienna brand wiener -- the restaurant chain uses its own frank, which Vienna says detracts from its authenticity. "If they're not offering it (like a Chicago original), it's not a true Chicago-style dog," said Peter Sload, Vienna Beef's director of marketing. Wienerschnitzel's Chicago Dog sells for $1.99.
