Pitcairn, a British Pacific colony located about halfway between Peru and New Zealand, is recruiting prison guards for a September sex abuse trial. Advertisement Seven men who live there face multiple sex abuse charges and could be jailed on the island if convicted. Britain is building a seven-hut, minimum security jail on Pitcairn. Many of the island's inhabitants are descendants of Fletcher Christian and his gang of mutineers who seized control of the British merchant ship HMS Bounty in the late 1700s.
