"It's just going to be kids that enjoy hunting, do beer drinking in the desert and come back with rabbits," said Officer Noe Baeza of the Pebble Hills Regional Command. "As far as a ritual, we are not looking at that." Advertisement The El Paso Times reported school personnel found the 14 dead rabbits May 24, and a house in the neighborhood reported a dead rabbit left in the driveway. Animal mutilation is not common in El Paso, but in 1986 citizens discovered hanged rabbits, a sliced-up ram and a beheaded goat. Police set up surveillance at desert sites, because of rumors of "satanic ritual sites." Satanists never appeared and police determined most of dead animals were the result of pranks.
