CHICAGO, June 17 (UPI) -- Chicago's summer-time orgy of gluttony, the annual Taste of Chicago food festival, is taking a cue from the Atkins and South Beach diets -- low carb pizza.

Mayor Richard Daley tried out the low-carb version of the famous Chicago-style pizza at a press preview Wednesday. Shrimp fried rice and a miniature hot dog completed the mayor's lunch, the Chicago Tribune said.

The 24th Taste of Chicago will feature exotic culinary offerings like farm-raised wild boar sausage, just one of the new eating experiences for the estimated 3.6 million people expected to cruise the 65 booths that will be a 10-day smorgasbord of cuisine from restaurants around the city.

Taste runs from June 25 through July 4 in downtown Grant Park. The event ends a day after the city's traditional July 3 Independence Day fireworks, this year dedicated to U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
