LONDON, June 8 (UPI) -- Britain's Scotland Yard is baffled by a reverse heist -- believed to be the first ever in England.

The Sun reported Tuesday a bank robber took $211,000 from a British bank's automatic teller machine, but seven days later returned all but $20,000 to Barclays.

"We know we offer cash back facilities, but we didn't expect anything quite like this," a Barclays insider said.

A window in the hole-in-the-wall cubicle ATM area was smashed from inside and locks protecting the ATM, were sheered off, police said.

Criminal lawyer Robert Brown, of the law firm Corker Binning, said that the thief returning the money might help him or her get a reduced sentence, if caught.
