WELLINGTON, New Zealand, May 4 (UPI) -- Australia's largest airline may have served the freshest salad in the air: A passenger found a living frog among her greens and croutons.

The woman, flying from Melbourne to Wellington, had the presence of mind to slip the lid back over her salad when she found a whistling tree frog looking back at her, the New Zealand Herald reported Tuesday.

A flight attendant then removed the container, said Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Quarantine Service spokesman Cyril Evans.

The tiny brownish-colored frog, a native of Australia, was taken from the plane and "euthanized" by being put into a freezer.

A Qantas spokesman said since the incident in February, the airline had changed its lettuce supplier and introduced "additional procedures into the salad supply process."

Tree frogs are common in the area where the lettuce was grown.
