Democrats upset over GOP joke

BOSTON, April 30 (UPI) -- Masachusetts Democrats are upset over an e-mail relayed by the state's top military official that derides the party and this summer's national convention.

National Guard Adjutant General George W. Keefe, who may be called upon to assist in convention security, didn't write the parody but sent it around to friends within the Republican administration of Gov. Mitt Romney.

It called Democrats flag-burners, mocked Sen. Ted Kennedy's drinking habits and suggested the convention host a "terrorist appeasement workshop."

Reference was also made to a Saddam pep rally, John Kerry's medal toss, abortion, welfare and gay marriages.

"On reflection, I regret that action," Keefe said.
