SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 29 (UPI) -- Police arrested two occupants of a stolen car as it emerged from a Springfield, Mass. car wash, foiling their plans for a clean getaway.
A man saw his missing car, a 1995 Honda Accord, waiting in line Tuesday for a wash at the Mr. Sprinkles Car Wash, the Springfield Republican reported Thursday.
"The owner saw them pull into the bay and called police," Capt. William Noonan told the newspaper.
When the car emerged from its wash and wax, officers were waiting on the other side.
Arrested were Dennis Rivera and a 16-year-old juvenile.
Rivera was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle and possession of marijuana. The juvenile was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle and possession of burglary tools.
The boy had in his possession what Noonan called the "car keys," or a screw driver that was probably used to pry off the ignition lock. The lock and steering column were damaged in the theft.
However, at least it was returned cleaner than when it was stolen.
