KUNMING, China, April 7 (UPI) -- Using a female body as a platter to contain food violates local health codes, authorities told a restaurant in China's Yunnan province on Monday.

Health officials in Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, put a stop to a restaurant's bizarre practice of serving food atop the bodies of naked women lying on the tables, Xinhua reported.

The restaurant, which is owned by an entertainment company, came up with the sensational idea to solicit business. College girls were hired to serve as platters for customers who hired private rooms in the restaurant.

When health officials arrived to inspect the restaurant, its owners claimed their food was clean because it was served on disinfected maple leaves atop the girls' bodies. Inspectors did a test on the leaves but could not find any violation.

Nevertheless, city health officials ordered a stop to the practice, naming it a violation of health codes when the girls failed to show valid health certificates. They also cited food industry regulations requiring that women working in restaurants be neatly dressed.
