NEW YORK, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- New York City officials found two babies abandoned in bags within 14 hours of each other -- and both still alive, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

In Harlem, Katrina Gray, a program assistant at the Northern Manhattan Perinatal Partnership, noticed a large leather bag on the floor of the clinic Monday and tried to find its owner.

"It felt like I was carrying a bag of oranges," she said. "We opened it, and all we saw were blankets. We assumed it was someone's baby bag."

Gray finally left it in the reception area.

"A client said, 'There's something in that bag,'" a clinic worker said.

Authorities said the baby -- dubbed Moses by clinic staffers -- was between 1- and 5-days-old. He was taken to Harlem Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Meanwhile in Brooklyn, a tenant of an apartment building found a second baby wrapped inside a shopping bag early Tuesday.

The female baby, who appeared to be only hours old, was wrapped in clothing inside the bag, a police source told the Post.

She was taken to Lutheran Hospital where she was listed in good condition.
