SOKA, Japan, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- A Japanese garbage collector on his rounds discovered a bag containing $250,000 worth of currency in a plastic bag, the Mainichi Daily News reports.

The unidentified 60-year-old man dutifully turned the 2,800 bills in to his supervisors in the city of Soka, but only after finishing his appointed collection route, the newspaper said.

Police were notified, and news of the find was circulated in hopes of finding the owner. By Tuesday, no one had claimed the loot.

This was the second such large find of cash in the same prefecture since December when more than $300,000 in 10,000 yen notes were found at a garbage drop-off.
