LONDON, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- There are plenty of Internet sites for the lovelorn right now, but the newest dating site targets a specific audience -- military singles.

A group of former police and military staff came up with the idea, citing the history of romance between nurses, police officers, firefighters and forces personnel, The Observer reported Sunday.

The Web site, uniformdating.com, is being run by Network Services International Ltd, which set up the MoD Oracle and Police Oracle sites that provide resources for ex-servicemen and police, the newspaper said.

Mike Wenn, Webmaster and editor of MoD Oracle, said 90 percent of the respondents to a pen-pals section of his site were "looking for love."

Wenn said the pen-pals section was meant as a way for troops overseas to stay in touch, but when it became apparent most of the troops wanted more than "pals," Network Services decided to take it a step farther.
