BRISBANE, Australia, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- Australian TV naturalist Steve Irwin, known for close calls with dangerous reptiles, has escaped again -- but this time it was the law he escaped.

Irwin brought his one-month old son Bob into a crocodile pen to feed a dead chicken to a 13-foot crocodile. He held his son with his left arm and fed the reptile with his right.

The stunt outraged and disgusted numerous groups, and drew comparisons with Michael Jackson's dangling of his son over a hotel balcony railing for photographers.

Acting Queensland Premier Terry Mackenroth says family services officials contacted Irwin and his wife Terri and were promised it would not happen again, so no charges would be filed.

The show at Brisbane's Australia Zoo was billed as "Bob's Croc Feeding Debut."

Federal Opposition families spokesman Wayne Swan said the act set a terrible parenting example.

"This was a very irresponsible action from someone who is an international role model for this country, it's a very irresponsible thing for Steve Irwin to do, and the right course of action for him now is simply to apologize, admit he made a mistake, and put it behind him," Swan said.
