SYDNEY, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Members of an Australian wedding party at a Greek Orthodox church were attacked by neighbors and police who arrested one guest.

Ross and Trisha Ladas, the decidely not-so-happy couple, also lost their tropical honeymoon so the bride could have medical tests to see if her unborn child was harmed by the crowd-control gas, capsicum, sprayed on the crowd by police.

Shortly before midnight the groom stepped outside of the Greek Orthodox church hall of St. Demetrios-St. Marys after being accused by a neighbor of setting off a car alarm.

Tensions quickly rose.

The groom and a groomsmen were attacked, and a guest protecting the matron of honor was hit in the back with an ax and left to bleed on the ground as scuffles broke out.

When the police arrived they did not arrest anyone for the ax attack but did arrest one guest for assaulting an officer.

The groom's father, Peter Ladas, said he was pointing to the attackers who were still brandishing weapons, but instead of arresting them, police sprayed him, his pregnant daughter-in-law and some children.
