BOSTON, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- In the British Commonwealth, the day after Christmas is Boxing Day, but in the United States, Thanksgiving could also be called Plumbers' Day.
That's because the day of Thanksgiving also is the busiest day for plumbers summoned urgently to unclog drains and jammed garbage disposal units of wads of table scraps, the Christian Science Monitor reported Wednesday.
A plumber named Bob, of Kevin Shaw Plumbing in Boston, jokingly asked why Squanto, the legendary native American who taught pilgrims to give thanks in 1621, never followed through on the lesson with instructions for overload disposal.
A Califonia plumber recalls a husband who paid him an extra $100 not to tell his wife it was indeed the potato peelings he had thrown down the toilet that were causing the clog.
Roto-Rooter reports plumbing calls jumped 46.4 percent the Friday after Thanksgiving last year, compared to a typical Friday.
