Vampire only howled out of peer pressure

Oct. 15, 2003 at 2:06 PM   |   Comments

LONDON, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- A British man charged with harassing a minister told the judge he is a reincarnated vampire and only howls as part of the image, a newspaper said Thursday.

Ben Lewis, 25, denied he was a Satanist and said he "identified with the Lord Jesus Christ" because, like Him, he was an outcast.

The London Telegraph reported Lewis, with his friends all dressed black or crimson clothing, had experimented in bloodletting and blood drinking.

Lewis, his life-long friend Scott Bower, 26, and his girlfriend Natalie Gibson, 19, are accused of waging a campaign of harassment against their local vicar, Chris Rowberry, his wife and two children.

It is alleged they howled outside his church, St. Mary the Virgin, posted obscene material on the church notice board, made nuisance phone calls late at night and let off fireworks outside his home.

Lewis admitted he did howl once, but had done so only because it was expected of him.
