LONDON, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- A man who claims to be a reincarnated vampire testified during his London trial Tuesday as to why he drinks blood.

The London Telegraph reported Ben Lewis, a hotel porter, said he's a reincarnated vampire, but added, "I don't mean all that silly film stuff about crosses and garlic." He said he was more of a "psychic vampire" who "absorbed energy from other people".

The Telegraph said Lewis admitted he had experimented in bloodletting and blood drinking to determine if it gave him strength.

Lewis, his life-long friend Scott Bower, and his girlfriend are accused of waging a campaign of harassment against the Rev Chris Rowberry, his wife and two children.

It is alleged they howled outside Rowberry's church, posted obscene material on the church bulletin board, made nuisance phone calls late at night and set off fireworks outside his home.

The alleged incidents resulted in them being jointly accused of a seldom-used offence, religiously aggravated harassment, which all three deny.

Lewis admitted he did howl once, but he said he did so only because it was expected of him.
