JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Air Force One was forced to abort an initial landing approach Tuesday at Jacksonville, Fla., because a police car was sitting too close to the runway.

President Bush traveled to Florida for a fundraiser. He was met at the airport by his brother, Gov. Jeb Bush, following a successful second landing attempt.

A spokesman for the airport said the control tower had not realized the police car was on the road next to the runway, waiting to lead the presidential motorcade.

The incident occurred at 11:14 a.m., delaying Bush's arrival by three minutes as the plane circled.

En route to the Jacksonville fundraiser, which is expected to raise $1.7 million, Bush passed a billboard near Alltel Stadium, reading: "3 million jobs lost since 2000 by George W. Bush."

It was Florida's electoral votes that pushed Bush over the top in 2000 to put him into the White House.
