The Bangkok Post says a prototype is already flying and can be operated by one person with a small, hand-held joystick. Advertisement Sukhon Phanthu-nen, in charge of the project, told the Post the craft is actually a computer-controlled flying robot, with wide potential use in agriculture, border security and natural-resource surveying. The unmanned aircraft is just one of the projects being carried out by graduate and post-graduate students in mechatronics -- a course that combines mechanical, electronic and computer engineering. The Bangkok institute's mechatronics department is the first in Southeast Asia.
