NEW YORK, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Shattered leg and all, a New York man's caregivers are pushing him to buy a lottery ticket, a newspaper said Thursday.

Financial analyst Brendan Crismon, 34, is recovering from the battering he received as a subway rattled over him Wednesday.

He cheated death by rolling into a shallow gully as a train roared over him after being pushed by a man, now being sought by police.

"I told him that when he's done with the X-rays and surgery, I want him to buy me a lottery ticket, because I think he's the luckiest man in the world," Bellevue Hospital spokesman James Saunders said.

Surgeons were trying to repair Crismon's shattered left leg Wednesday night as police hunted for a suspect -- a blond man in a blue jersey -- who fled.
