HIGHLAND PARK, Ill., June 30 (UPI) -- Hundreds of leather-clad bikers in the Chicago area are looking for a new place to have Sunday brunch.

For 25 years, the Highland House restaurant dished out breakfast every Sunday to hundreds of hungry bikers, who showed up with big appetites.

The restaurant closed abruptly Sunday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

A handwritten sign on the door to the family-style restaurant on U.S. Highway 41 was the only warning.

Last week, owners John Filopoulos and Mike Prokos decided after months of debate to retire and lease the Highland Park restaurant's 1-acre site to a car dealer.

"Business has been a little off the last few years, and my dad and uncle were getting older," said Frank Prokos, the restaurant's manager, who started working there when he was 10.

The bikers' economic clout was clearly evident Sunday as employees from several other restaurants handed out fliers in the parking lot, urging them to stop by for a visit.
