HALLE BERRY'S BROKEN ARM
Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry broke her arm Wednesday while filming a scene for the upcoming horror movie "Gothika," according to the TV show "Extra."
The show said Berry was rushed to a Montreal hospital after breaking her arm during a physically demanding shot. The star of "Monster's Ball" and "Die Another Day" was said to be in good spirits -- but was not expected to return to the set this week.
Berry told "Extra" earlier this month that she was expecting the role to be physically challenging.
"It's turning into something that's really gritty and really, really scary," she said.
Berry stars as a criminal psychologist who wakes up one day to find herself an inmate in the institution where she works -- with no memory of a murder she is accused of committing. Penélope Cruz and Robert Downey Jr. co-star.
"Extra" reported that production on "Gothika" was suspended, and is expected to resume next Tuesday.
REMEMBERING ROBERT STACK
Robert Stack -- best known as G-Man Elliott Ness on the TV series "The Untouchables" -- died at 84 Wednesday at his home in Los Angeles.
Stack made headlines at 20 in his 1939 screen debut, "First Love," with an onscreen kiss with Deanna Durbin. He went on to star in close to 50 features and dozens of TV shows.
His film resume included dramas such as "The High and the Mighty" and "Is Paris Burning?", and comedies such as "To Be or Not to Be" and "Airplane!"
Stack was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in 1956 for his performance as a self-destructive playboy millionaire in "Written on the Wind." He was nominated twice for the Emmy for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series for "The Untouchables" -- winning in 1960.
Stack had already achieved some measure of fame before beginning his acting career. He won a World Skeet shooting championship in his teens, and later became a top speedboat racer.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said it would honor Stack Thursday by placing flowers on his Walk of Fame star on Hollywood Boulevard.
ANGELINA JOLIE, VANESSA REDGRAVE WILL CO-STAR
Oscar-winning actresses Angelina Jolie and Vanessa Redgrave will co-star in an upcoming HBO movie, according to a report in Daily Variety.
Jolie ("Girl, Interrupted") and Redgrave ("Julia") will star in "The Fever," directed by Redgrave's son Carlo Nero. It's described as the story of a middle-class woman who becomes politically aware after a life of detachment from world affairs.
Wallace Shawn ("Toy Story") wrote the screenplay, based on his play "Fever."
'MULAN' REVISITED
"Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-Fat will re-team to film an epic Chinese tale, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Hua Mulan" -- the story of a woman who masquerades as a man and becomes a war hero -- was made into an animated feature by Disney in 1998. The new version is being produced by Han Entertainment and Yeoh's company, Mythical Films.
Han's managing director Thomas Chung told The Reporter production is scheduled to begin Aug. 22 in China.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be involved in a project that brings these two icons together again," said Han.
GWYNETH PALTROW TAKING A LONGER BREAK
The New York Post reported Thursday that Gwyneth Paltrow's "melancholia" has caused her to drop out of another movie.
However, a publicist for the Oscar-winning star of "Shakespeare in Love" told the paper she "just needs some time off."
Published reports in Hollywood earlier this month said Jennifer Garner would replace Paltrow in the cast of "Happy Endings," because Paltrow needed time to grieve the death of her father. When writer-producer Bruce Paltrow died last October, Gwyneth Paltrow was in production on "Ted and Sylvia" -- an account of the relationship between poets Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes.
Now, the Post reports that Paltrow has left the cast of "I Love Huckabee's." It's described as the story of a woman involved in a love triangle with two men, played by Jude Law and Mark Wahlberg.
'MATRIX' TICKETS MOVING FAST
The online movie ticket seller Fandango reported Thursday that, as of 9 a.m., it was selling three tickets per second for "The Matrix Reloaded."
Fandango said it expected sales to pick up later in the day.
On Wednesday, the company announced that the new Keanu Reeves-Laurence Fishburne sci-fi action picture had sold more tickets at this point in the sales cycle than any other film in the company's history. Fandango said many of Wednesday night's 10 p.m. sneak previews were sold out, and theaters were adding new show times -- some showing the movie around the clock.
"The Matrix Reloaded" accounted for 98 percent of the tickets sold by Fandango in the past week. "X2: X-Men United" was second, with 1 percent. "Daddy Day Care," "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" and "Holes" each accounted for less than .01 percent of Fandango's sales during the past week.
