NEW YORK, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Following are the nominations for the Song of the Year Grammy Award: "Complicated" written by Avril Lavigne & The Matrix, "Don't Know Why" written by Jesse Harris, "The Rising" by Bruce Springsteen, "A Thousand Miles" by Vanessa Carlton, and "Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)" by Alan Jackson. The Song Of The Year honor is bestowed upon the song writer, not the artist who sings it. Nearly all of the contenders for the 2002 award, however, were penned by the artists who perform them.
