THINGS WE DON'T UNDERSTAND

Recent studies show more teenagers are waiting until marriage to have sex but Mississippi State University researchers say those young lovebirds who do decide to go all the way, do it for the first time in December.

Writing in the Journal of Marriage and Family, the researchers used the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health to discover two seasonal peaks.

The first sexual debut peak is in early summer -- when school's out -- for adolescents in general, not romantic partners.

The second peak is in December -- with Christmas considered a romantic holiday -- and this sexual debut is for kids who are romantically involved with another person -- the holiday effect.

NEWS OF OTHER LIFE FORMS

For those dying to know what President George W. Bush got for Christmas, the Washington Post has the inside gift-giving track on his little sister, Doro Bush Koch.

The Post reports Koch apparently decided George deserved something better than just another lousy necktie this year so she commissioned Washington artist Elena Bonafonte-Vidotto to paint a portrait of the First Pets.

Koch was to give her gift to the president and first lady on Christmas Eve at Camp David.

The portrait includes the likeness of dogs Barney and Spot and cat India.

TODAY'S SIGN THE WORLD IS ENDING

From the folks who brought you the video song "Osama Got Run Over By a Reindeer," madblast.com has come up with its latest online game -- the Michael Jackson Baby Drop.

It's based on a recent incident in Germany when the aging pop singer dangled his infant son over a 4th floor hotel room balcony using just one hand as fans watched on the ground below.

This game has Jackson dropping babies over the balcony railing and gives players a chance to see how many they can catch in a basket.

Jackson -- who keeps pet tarantulas at home -- also drops spiders, which must be avoided. Have fun!

AND FINALLY, TODAY'S UPLIFTING STORY

Shirin Molly John of Omaha, Neb. received a very special Christmas gift -- a kidney from Juan Carlos Adame, 41, a friend of her husband.

"I had been praying that God would deliver me from this sickness by Christmas," John told the Des Moines Register.

John arrived in America from India five years ago and knew Adame through her husband at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa.

They didn't meet each other, however, until Dec. 11, when they talked for about 15 minutes and Adame pledged to donate one of his kidneys if lab tests determined he was compatible, the paper reports.
