IT'S A BOY!
Dixie Chick Emily Robison and her husband, musician Charlie Robison, welcomed a son at 10:06 p.m. Monday. A publicist for the Dixie Chicks announced Tuesday that Charles Augustus Robison weighed in at 8 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 21 inches long. Mom and baby are healthy and resting at home in San Antonio. Robison and her band mates, Natalie Maines and Martie Maguire, skipped last week's Country Music Association Awards last week -- where they won for vocal group of the year -- while they waited for the blessed event.
ADKINS PLANS USO TOUR
Country star Trace Adkins has announced plans to travel to Southwest Asia for a USO tour over the Thanksgiving holidays. Adkins -- who has apparently made a full recovery from a recent accident on his farm near Nashville -- plans to entertain U.S. troops from Nov. 26-Dec. 1. In September, Adkins performed at a USO Gala in Washington at which former President George H.W. Bush received the 2002 USO Spirit of Hope Award. "I'm really thrilled and excited to be a part of this USO Tour," said Adkins. "It's such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I'm not sure if we can ever truly express how grateful we all are for what they do, but I'm going to do everything I can to let them know while I'm there."
WHAT THE BUTLER SAW -- CONTINUED
According to Daily Variety, rival networks are complaining that ABC paid the late Princess Diana's butler Paul Burrell a six-figure amount for an interview scheduled for Tuesday with Elizabeth Vargas for "20/20." ABC News denied that it paid Burrell -- saying it doesn't pay anyone for interviews. The interview is scheduled to air Monday, along with footage from Burrell's documentary "Diana's Rock." ABC did pay for U.S. broadcast rights for the documentary, which is also scheduled to air Monday on "Good Morning America." The competition claims that the "20/20" interview was part of a package that included the documentary -- so it's the same as paying for the interview. Burrell's lawyer, Richard Greene, told reporters in New York Monday that Burrell has a lot to say -- if he decides to say it. "Let's put it this way," said Greene, "if there was to be an interview about all of the things that Paul Burrell knew that were titillating, sensational or potentially embarrassing for the royal family or anyone else, the interview would take the entire week."
WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH JANE FONDA'S FACE?
Maybe they'll stop calling Jane Fonda "Hanoi Jane" and start calling her "Facelift Jane," now that The National Enquirer has published a cover story purporting to expose the fitness video star's recent facelift. On the other hand, maybe that's not Jane on the front page. Pat Kingsley, Fonda's publicist, told the New York Daily News the tabloid's story -- "Jane Fonda's Tragedy -- Devastating Secret She's Trying to Hide" -- is all wrong. "It's not Jane," said Kingsley. "Even if she wanted to have a facelift, she wouldn't have time." Kingsley said that as far as she knows, Fonda has never had plastic surgery. Fonda once said she was "appalled by plastic surgery in this country. We've got to make friends with those sags and wrinkles, as they represent our lifetime experience." National Enquirer Editor David Perel told the News his paper stands by the story: "Yes, it is her. We're absolutely sure of it." According to the Enquirer, Fonda is a "lonely star" who went under the knife in hopes of "winning back" former husband Ted Turner and reviving her film career.
UPI DAILY SURVEY QUESTION NO. 457
Our question for today is: "Looking at your life, what was your happiest year? How old were you and why was it the best?" Put YEAR in the subject line and send to comments@upi.com via the Internet.
RESULTS OF QUESTION NO. 452 (PRESIDENT)
Last week, on Election Day, we asked if you'd like to be president. From a random dip into the e-mail inbox, here is what you said:
Yes, I'd like to be president ... 35 percent.
No, I wouldn't like to be president ... 15 percent.
Several noted that this would be the worst time in American history to be working in the oval office. TOMORROW: How much do you remember about grade school?
