LEE ANN RIMES TO STAR IN BASEBALL FLICK

Lee Ann Rimes has signed to star in a movie based on the true story of a pitcher who was thrown out of the major leagues for being a woman.

Rimes will play Tennessee native Jackie Mitchell in "The Girl Who Struck Out Babe Ruth," an independent flick by 'bel Films.

Mitchell was thrown out of major league baseball in 1931 because of her gender -- and after striking out baseball icons Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, back to back.

Rimes, whose new album "Twisted Angel" is to be released Oct. 1, previously appeared in "Coyote Ugly."
