ELVIS TOP EARNER AMONG DEAD CELEBS

Even though Elvis Presley has been dead and gone for a quarter century, his music and persona still create a lot of noise at cash registers.

In the Forbes magazine list of dead celebrities' earnings for the 12-month period ending June 30, The King raked in $37 million, more than any other.

About $4 million of the total came from the remake of "A Little Less Conversation" -- a song Elvis performed in a 1968 movie -- which was ranked No. 1 in the United Kingdom for four weeks.

Elvis' take was well ahead of $28 million earned by No. 2, "Peanuts" creator Charles Schultz, and $20 million attracted by slain Beatle John Lennon. Race car driver Dale Earnhardt was No. 4 with $20 million.

The two-hour special will feature music by Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard and many other honky tonk traditionalists.

Viewers also will tour three of Texas's most celebrated honky tonks -- The Broken Spoke in Austin, Gruene (GREEN) Hall in Gruene, Billy Bob's in Fort Worth -- and The Cowboy Palace in California.

BROOKS & DUNN WORKING ON NEW ALBUM

Brooks & Dunn are putting pen to paper for their next album, 16 months after the release of their current release, "Steers & Stripes."

The duo is in the song-writing stage and no date has been set to begin recording.

"Steers & Stripes" spawned three No. 1 singles: "There Ain't Nothing 'Bout You," which topped the chart for six weeks, "Only In America" and "The Long Goodbye."
