COFFEE, LATEST HAWAIIAN TOURIST ENTICEMENT

For more decades than people can remember coffee has been a huge part of the economy of Hawaii. For more than three decades that state has held a gigantic festival honoring the role coffee has played in the economy. This year is the 32nd annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival.

The organizers tell me the coffee harvest is usually late in the year, in November. This year's festival runs the first 10 days of that month.

New this year is a driving tour of the island, guided with the help of special maps and brochures. The tour lets tourists take their time and drive through the winding backroads of one of the nation's most beautiful venues.

There are nearly 30 major coffee processors in Kona country. They all forget about their rivalries and join together for the annual event. In addition to gallons of coffee, the festival features some of the best food of any American festival, along with native entertainment.
