Advertisement The album was released on May 26, a Sunday, in response to its wide availability online and in bootleg. It sold more than 284,000 copies and made No. 1 after three days in release. Sean "P. Diddy" Combs' "P. Diddy & Bad Boy Records Present ... We Invented the Remix" was No. 2 this week, followed by Ashanti's self-titled debut album, which rose two spots to No. 3. Cam'ron's "Come Home with Me" is No. 4, followed by Celine Dion's "A New Day Has Come." The rest of the Top 10: Marc Anthony's "Mended"; Sheryl Crow's "C'mon C'mon"; Kenny Chesney's "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems"; "Now That's What I Call Music! Volume 9" and Musiq's "Juslisen." Advertisement R. KELLY SAYS HE'S NO CRIMINAL R&B singer-producer R. Kelly, who was being held Wednesday in a Florida jail cell, issued a statement saying he is "grateful" for the chance to show the public that he is "no criminal." A grand jury in Chicago indicted R. Kelly Wednesday on 21 counts of child pornography, accusing him of taping himself having sex with a 14-year-old girl. The indictment charges the singer with seven counts each of videotaping, producing and soliciting, in a tape allegedly shot at his home. "Even though I don't believe any of these charges are warranted," said the singer, "I'm grateful that I will have a chance to establish the truth about me in a court of law. I have complete faith in our system of justice, and I am confident that when all the facts come out, people will see that I'm no criminal." State's Attorney Richard Devine said investigators are convinced the tape depicts R. Kelly, despite the entertainer's denials. He said R. Kelly should have known the girl in the video was a minor. "Criminal conduct, no matter who's involved, will not be tolerated in the city of Chicago," said Chicago Police Superintendent Terry G. Hillard. Advertisement The Chicago Sun-Times received a copy of the 26-minute tape from an anonymous source earlier this year and turned it over to police on Feb. 1. The tape has been bootlegged, selling on street corners for $10 to $15, and posted for download on the Internet. The girl and her parents also deny the allegations. "The lady in the tape is not who police think she is," Kelly's attorney Ed Genson told WLS-TV. DEREK TRUCKS BAND IS ROAD-READY The Derek Trucks Band plans to hit the road June 23 for the summer leg of their Joyful Noise Tour -- a series of dates that will include festivals, concerts, free outdoor shows and gigs opening for The Allman Brothers Band, as well as with Columbia label mates Phil Lesh & Friends and Jorma Kaukonen. Trucks, a nephew of Allman Brothers Band drummer Butch Trucks, started playing slide guitar before he was 10, and was jamming with the band and people like Buddy Guy when he was 12. He frequently guests with the Brothers, and replaced guitarist Jack Pearson when he left the band after the March '99 Beacon run. Joyful Noise -- due in stores Aug. 27 -- was produced by Craig Street (Chris Whitley, Cassandra Wilson), except for two tracks that were produced by legendary session drummer Russ Kunkel. It's a genre-bending affair, featuring jazz, rock, blues, Latin, Eastern Indian and other world music styles. Advertisement The set features guest vocalists including Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Salsa legend Ruben Blades, R&B veteran Solomon Burke and Trucks' wife, singer-guitarist Susan Tedeschi, a Grammy nominee for best new artist in 1999. KELLY OSBOURNE ON LENO Kelly Osbourne will make her network TV performing debut on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on June 14, as part of the show's Lincoln Garage Concert Series. She has been on the show before, appearing with the rest of her family to promote MTV's "The Osbourne Family" series. Hers will be the second musical performance in the Lincoln Garage Concert Series -- which gets started Friday with No Doubt. The series continues each Friday until Sept. 6 on the outdoor Lincoln Garage stage -- built specifically for the musical performances next to "The Tonight Show" soundstage at NBC Studios in Burbank. NEW DISTURBED ON THE WAY Disturbed has finished mixing seven of the 13 tracks planned for its upcoming album "Believe." Singer David Draiman told LAUNCH the band has matured. "Initially before we even started writing any of these, (guitarist) Danny (Donegan) and I had a little conversation where I kind of asked him, 'Give me some room to run,'" said Draiman. "We're still obviously very much metal. But I wanted to try some different things. He wanted to try different things. We wanted to grow and mature and show some development. People get tired of a band who put out records that are exactly the same." Advertisement "Believe" is set for release some time this summer, with the single "Prayer" tentatively scheduled to go to air in late July.
