The guild -- which calls its award the Actor -- uses the term "female actor" instead of the word "actress."
Both Crowe and Spacek recently won Golden Globe Awards for their performances.

"The Lord of the Rings" and "Moulin Rouge" are the leaders for this year's Bafta nominations, with 12 each.
"Gosford Park" and the French film "Amelie" each received nine nominations from the Orange British Academy, while "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (released in the United States as "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone") garnered seven nods, BBC1.com reports.
The Orange British Academy Film Awards will be handed out Feb. 24 in London.

HASTY PUDDING AWARDS
Sarah Jessica Parker and Bruce Willis are the Harvard University's Hasty Pudding Theatricals woman and man of the year.
The stars of "Sex and the City" and the upcoming movie "Hart's War" will receive their traditional pudding pots at separate ceremonies next month.
Parker gets a parade through Harvard Square on Feb. 7 leading up to the presentation at the Hasty Pudding Theater. Willis gets his honor one week later.
The club said it is recognizing Parker not only for her talent, but also for being a "dedicated humanitarian." The actress serves as national ambassador for the U.S. fund for UNICEF.

Venerable funnyman Don Rickels isn't about to retire. The 75-year-old insult expert has just signed a major two-year contract with the Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, N.J., that will see him performing in at least five major engagements.
The casino confirms that Rickels' initial gig at the facility's main showroom will be in late April of this year.
When not on the East Coast, Rickels performs in Las Vegas at the Stardust.
