British saxophonist and bandleader Ronnie Scott was born this day in 1927 in London. He opened his renowned jazz nightclub in London in 1959. Scott died in December 1996.

Drummer Bob Moses was born this day in 1948 in New York City. Through the years, he has recorded with Gary Burton, Dave Liebman, Pat Metheny and George Russell and led his own groups.


On this day in 1937, trumpeter Roy Eldridge first recorded "After You've Gone."

On the New York jazz scene, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra holds down its regular Monday night spot at the Village Vanguard. The Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra featuring Lew Tabackin is at Birdland tonight. Les Paul's trio is at Iridium.


Guitarist Gene Bertoncini, bassist Michael Moore and saxophonist Fred Haas perform tonight at University of New Hampshire at Durham.


The Youngstown State University All-Star Alumni Ensemble performs tonight at the school's Kilcawley Center to salute the legacy of late bassist and jazz studies program founder Tony Leonardi. Those performing tonight include Ralph Lalama, James Weidman, Melissa Slocum, Glenn Wilson, Jeff Grubbs, Sean Jones and Darryl Pellegrini.

On the Chicago jazz scene, Brian Danzy and Jazzmatics are at the Backroom through Wednesday. Singer-pianist Patricia Barber's trio is at the Green Mill tonight. The Yoko Noge Jazz Me Blues band is at HotHouse. Katherine Davis is at Joe's BeBop Café and Jazz Emporium. Judy Roberts and Greg Fishman team up at Pops for Champagne. Nadine Baxter is at Philander's in Oak Park.


In New Orleans tonight, Bob French leads the Monday night jam at Donna's tonight. Jason Marsalis's quartet is at the Funky Butt. Trumpeter Reginald Koeller leads the band at Preservation Hall tonight. Charmaine Neville is in the spotlight at Snug Harbor. The New Orleans Night Crawlers Brass Band is at the Storyville District Jazz Parlor.


The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra is at the Oscar Mayer Theatre in the Madison, Wis., Civic Center tonight.


On the California jazz scene, singer Diane Schuur's trio is at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz tonight. The John Peace Superband is at Steamers Jazz Café in Fullerton. Singer Lorraine Feather is at the Catalina Bar and Grill in North Hollywood. The Brooklyn Sax Quartet is at Yoshi's in Oakland. Alex Budman leads the Contemporary Jazz Orchestra at Jazz at Pearl's in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood tonight.
