Herenton and Brown University President Ruth Simmons will appear on "An Evening of Stars: A Celebration of Educational Excellence," the annual television fund-raising event of the United Negro College Fund. The telethon airs on 71 TV stations nationwide this Saturday. (Thanks to UPI's Capital Comment) O.J. SIMPSON O.J. Simpson's hip-hop show in Connecticut Sunday night was a flop. While some 600 had been expected for the show at Stage East in East Hartford, fewer than 100 bought tickets, and many left before the former football star and acquitted murderer arrived before midnight, the Hartford Courant reports. "It's a big scam," said Richard Flyer of East Hartford, one of the first in line. "People are boycotting." Even an announced protest by the National Organization for Women was called off. Advertisement Before Simpson entered the club to shake hands with the dozens who waited for him, the microphones had been dismantled and the disc jockey had left. The newspaper said Simpson actually encountered more people earlier in the day during a brief stop at the Buckland Hills Mall in Manchester and at a light dinner at City Steam Brewery Café in Hartford. The tour now heads to Harlem, Philadelphia and Camden, N.J., before landing in New Orleans during Super Bowl weekend.
